In this course, Sarah Peyton will guide you on an exploration into how to know your limits and express them without having to pay more than you have in energy and shame backlashes.

The use of self-hate, disgust and contempt to manage emotions is an aftereffect of traumatic attachment, and so makes sense in the context of our lives. As we understand this, the root causes of the contracts made in disorganized attachment start to become clear. Jaak Panksepp’s linkage of predatory aggression with the SEEKING circuit helps to illuminate disorganization, and shows us an avenue for work.

Contracts that limit our life energy can lead to hopelessness and depression. When they are combined with negative self-talk, they can be toxic. Another facet of depression is hyperactivation of the anterior cingulate, which may have a contract to carry the pain of self and of the entire world. The release of these contracts in these two classes supports the reclamation of movement and agency.

Repair And Care In A Ruptured World: Psychology Tends to The Climate Crisis with Dr. Wendy Greenspun
Repair And Care In A Ruptured World: Psychology Tends to The Climate Crisis with Dr. Wendy Greenspun
In this workshop, Dr. Greenspun outlines the various ruptures that are both embedded in and contributing to the unfolding climate and environmental crisis. These ruptures include the internal defense mechanism of disavowal that leads us to split off our full awareness of climate disruption, the fractures between groups of people including various forms of polarization, marginalization and othering, and the split between humans and the more-than-human world characteristic of the modern Western world.

While the scientific community has come to unprecedented international scientific agreement on the causes of climate change and what needs to be done to stop it, there remains significant contention about the issue. At least part of the reason for this is the different decision-making frameworks of those involved in the decision-making and a seeming failure for widely respected figures to coalesce the disparate voices around a vision of the future that we can work toward while also valuing the past contributions of fossil fuel and providing a safety net for those who have worked so hard in that effort.
