What is the biochemistry of tears? Are there different kinds of tears? How does crying serve us? How can we best support ourselves and other when crying happens? Is crying always connected with grief? What is the role of tears in attachment? This month we look for the meaning beneath all these questions and more. Join Sarah for an evening of discovery of the nuances of tears, what makes people cry, and the role that empathy plays as we bring our exploration of emotion into the realm of tears, sorrow and connection.
Note: This teleseminar was done in 2014 and some of the understanding of neuroscience has evolved since this time. Please bear this in mind as you listen.
This teleseminar mentions that the vagus nerve has 3 gears, which is sort of true – but not current to today’s research. I don’t say that now since the HPA axis ( the body’s stress response) co-opts the ventral channel of the vagus nerve rather than being part of the nerve itself.
