The practice of nonviolence requires a deep rooting in needs. It requires a rooting that is so deep that it overrides our fight/flight/panicked aloneness/freeze responses. What is the neuroscience of this kind of intentionality and choice, and what does it teach us about our capacities as humans? Can empathy and resonance take us farther into our commitment to nonviolence? And what about protective use of force?
