Mine? Yours? Mysteries of Projection Revealed
Do you find yourself often caught in webs of projection? Would you like more agency in how you see people, and how you are seen? Join Sarah for a transformative eight-week exploration that will uncover the neuroscience behind projections, and support your capacity to live in complexity and freedom.
Are you often confused by what you are responsible for in your relationships with others? Do you receive blame much more often than you would like? Do you wake in the night and rerun confusing conversations, trying to figure out where they went wrong?
This is projection: the unconscious experience of our brain being mistaken by who another person is. This is because the amygdala, the part of brain that holds emotional experience and is central in the cognition of traumatic moments, does not know time and therefore isn’t very good at telling people apart. Unresolved moments of the past live on in the present. This causes all the mysterious layers of life to collapse into one single recognizable flavor – and this phenomenon is projection.
Our brain is always seeking to understand and categorize the world around us as patterns that it already recognizes, and projection helps us to manage overwhelm, confusion, and the anxiety that comes with complexity. Projection allows us to function in an instrumental world. When we don’t have enough resonance and relationality to help us integrate everything that’s happening, we have to use projection to cope.
Developing our brain’s capacity for relationality, care, and curiosity is the most effective way to help us find more agency within our experiences of projection. In order to move into relationship with the world as it is, we need to be able to mourn what it isn’t, because the world is never what we wish it were, and all of us are caught up in unwanted webs of projection. In this course, you’ll work with Sarah Peyton’s healing processes of unconscious contracts, time travel, and Resonant Language in order to learn how to be nimble as you navigate the world of projections: both your own and the ones that are cast upon you by others.
We’ll learn processes and practices to help identify when projection is happening, to see its patterns, and to heal some of the places in your nervous system that can trigger our amygdalas into projection. We will deepen, expand, complexify, and support our relational neurons with ourselves, other people, and with the world.
In this class, you will receive support for some of the restrictive narratives that are limiting your life and choices, and you will begin to have a more fluid sense of dancing within the projections that others put on you, rather than being stifled by them. We will also work extensively to grow our skills to invite others out of projection onto us and into relationship with us.
The learnings and practices in this 8-session course will support individuals and practitioners in having more understanding and recognition of how projection shows up in their connections and relationships: it will allow folks to walk away from experiences where they are being projected upon, and it will support practitioners to increase their capacity to have the personal introspection and awareness and skills that allow them to stay in warm and aware space in relationship with their clients.
The work in this course has the capacity to be life-changing: prepare to have an increased ability to make sense and recognize patterns in your life, and develop strategies to work with what was previously unnamed and ungraspable. Together we will work to grow our capacity for complexity and show up with a fuller sense of presence in our lives and relationships.
This 8-week course runs from October 14 - December 2, 2024
We will meet online from 1:30 PM-2:55 PM PDT | 4:30 PM EDT | 9:30 PM BST (convert to your time zone here)
Where?
The course will meet via zoom. We welcome participants from all time zones who wish to learn asynchronously for some or all of the sessions. Recordings and visuals will be made available to those who are registered for the live program (typically available within 72 hours of the live session).
When?
This 8-week course runs from October 14, 2024 through December 2, 2024 with classes meeting each Monday afternoon from 1:30 PM – 2:55 PM Pacific Time (To convert to your time zone, please click here)
What to Expect:
Each 85-minute class will include lecture and breakout sessions to practice resonance skills and build familiarity and confidence.
As a participant, you will:
- Explore the concept of projection
- Identify projection and translate the concept of projection into an understanding of trauma-informed amygdala reactivity
- Develop a trauma-informed consciousness of projection
- Formulate a response to the brain’s inherent desire for simplicity and pattern recognition
- Employ the Unconscious Contracts process to loosen projection’s grip
- Recognize the power of warmth and compassion to transform projection in themselves and clients
- Classify types of projection based on attachment styles
The classes will be recorded for participants in many time zones.
What You'll Learn Each Week:

Week 2 – October 21, 2024: Projection as a way of life
Week 3 – October 28, 2024: Disentangling trauma and projection
Week 4 – November 4, 2024: I/You Language as an exit from projection
Week 5 – November 11, 2024: Releasing contracts of projection
Week 6 – November 18, 2024: Mourning a projected world
Week 7 – November 25, 2024: Projection and shadow
Week 8 – December 2, 2024: Questions and Integration
Who Is This Course For?
Students of resonance and experienced resonance practitioners are welcome. This is for anyone interested in seeing how to minimize the unconscious influence of projection during daily life and in dyadic session work, to practice and receive support as supportive practitioners to have solid ground when harmful projection arises for those you are holding space for.
This Course Includes 1:1 Resonant Support
Get assistant support during classes – experience resonant support from experienced practitioners when you need it during class times. Often, this work can have unexpected depth and touch on deeply held subconscious awareness and pain. Getting support when we need it most helps participants to integrate, regulate, and have a felt experience of the transformative power of resonance.

Continuing Education (CE) Credits
We are delighted to offer 11 CE hours for this course for licensed psychologists, social workers and counselors in the state of Illinois* ($55 additional fee). Per state regulations, live attendance for 100% of the course time and all its sessions is required to receive CEs. Thank you, and we appreciate you for planning accordingly if you wish to receive CEs.
Please note our new sponsor organization: CEs are being sponsored by Centered Therapy Chicago (CTC), an accredited CE provider by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (Lic #268000085). CTC is able to provide CEs to licensed psychologists, social workers (LSWs and LCSWs), and counselors (LPCs and LCPCs) in the state of Illinois.
