Shame and Privilege: Exploring and Healing with NVC and Neuroscience
April 30, 2021 @ 6:30 am - May 2, 2021 @ 9:30 am PDT
Cost: $90 – $450About the Event
What makes it so hard to create large-scale change? A part of the answer is humans’ natural resistance to change. Another part of the answer is the way that power changes humans.
The experience of having more access to resources and less immunity to stress changes our brains. It makes us less compassionate, less empathetic, and more likely to believe we have the right to our resources and immunity. It can also make us ashamed to look, and ashamed to see what is true.
Humans generally don’t want to look at inequality, often because we want to believe that our world makes sense and that everything is turning out for the best. But without our vision and participation, nothing will change, and we cannot put our shoulders to the wheel with blinders on.
Luckily for humans, our Nonviolent Communication (NVC) practice, combined with leverage from the world of relational neuroscience, can bring us energy, calm, acceptance and even joy in our efforts to make the world a better place.
Join Sarah for 3 days (9 hours) of exploration of the interplay of shame and privilege and experiences of healing and self-connection.
In this class, participants will:
- Explore the effects of power and privilege on the human brain
- Learn about the 8 different levels of shame
- Discover the restrictive effect of our “do no harm” vows
- Experience the release of unconscious contracts
- Take away skills and practices that lead to deep acceptance and life-serving energy
