To Play or Not to Play? That Should Not be the Question…
The idea of play has become all too polarized with the idea of work within Western culture today. From the perspective of the brain, play is developmentally hardwired into all mammals. From the perspective of evolution, play goes together with open neural wiring at the very foundation of human memory, learning, and culture itself. This talk outlines the relevance of play for development and growth within children and adults throughout the lifetime. Special attention is paid to the role of play within all forms of psychotherapy in terms of implicit relational bids.
O. Fred Donaldson, Ph.D.
Play specialist, internationally recognized for his ongoing research and use of play with children and animals for over fifty years; coined the term “original play” to describe his work. Author of Playing By Heart: The Vision and Practice of Belonging and Playing For Real: Replaying The Game of Life as well as many articles and book chapters describing his play with children and animals around the world.
Keynote Presentation
Just Rightness: The Spiritual Physics of Original Play
If we are to have any hope of thriving in our world, we must dare to imagine and embody a way of life not based on fear. How do you touch the world? And how do you allow the world to touch you? This is not just a workshop about how you can survive, but more importantly how we can choose to give expression to what it means to be fully human. Imagine you feel, even just for a moment, that there is more to life than you can ever dream of explaining. You Let Go and play each and every moment as your defining moment, the NOW that says to the world, “Yes! I am present and this love is who I am and expressing this love is what I do.” It makes no sense to ask if this is real? Because what you now encounter is a reality that sets the standard for all that is real.

Play: The Neglected Prototype Emotional State
Play is a mammalian behavioral prototype, critical to social development, cognitive development, and affective regulation and a basic euthymia – indeed it may be essential, just like sleep, to our ability to “knit up the raveled sleeve of care”. And yet it is grossly – if not grotesquely – neglected in modern neuroscience and within our medical industrial complex and mental health systems, which are inundated by disorders that may reflect (at least in part) the long-term consequences of severe play deficit. Play is a core ‘opponent process’ to depression, critical for social competence and confidence, particularly in all forms of dominance and competition, and a critical part of our capacity to show resilience in the face of stress. Paradoxically, play may also teach reciprocity, empathy and the limits of dominance – how to be a good competitor but then also how to be not dominant when that is called for, especially if rough-and-tumble play is properly supervised.
This talk summarizes basic animal models, neuroanatomy, neurotransmitters, implications for psychotherapy and human development, and how play deficit may be an underappreciated component of ACE (adverse childhood experiences) and psychosocial trauma. Dr. Douglas Watt will also talk extensively about how the original prototype of rough-and-tumble play is transformed by higher cognitive functions into verbal humor which can lend spice and joy to virtually any situation. We have a society in which rough-and-tumble play, the essential template for playfulness in all our many social situations, may be harder for young children and adolescents to enjoy, as they become increasingly addicted to social media and screen time, with potentially disastrous consequences to cognition, social development and attachment, and long-term health.
In memory of Jaak Panksepp – one of the first neuroscientists to appreciate play and its central social and psychological roles.
Dr. Watt will speak to us for 2 hours with 30 minutes for Q&A. We will include a break during the 2-hour talk.

The Beauty of Babbling
Babies are better communicators than most adults. They do not lie about their likes or dislikes, and they are adamant and direct about their needs. This workshop will use the play of baby-like babbling paired with family constellation work to bring you into a more honest and authentic connection with your underlying desires, intentions, and needs. You can expect to leave this workshop feeling more joyfully connected to yourself, and thus more open-heartedly equipped to connect with resonance and care with others.

Excuse my French … not!” - Exploring the impact of keeping intensity, swearing and rage under muffled carpets in our homes, schools, workplaces…
“Don’t you dare speak to me this way!”, “it’s inappropriate!”, “it’s disrespectful!”, “it’s just not how a young person/employee/person should speak (to me)!” … What have we heard growing up that shut down the natural expression of our rage? How was our rage accompanied – or repressed and exiled? How was rage expression modeled? How was its impact and purpose made explicit or not? What unconscious contracts did we create to keep ourselves – or others – safe from expressing our rage? Come spend some time in community exploring how supporting our rage circuit and intensity of expression can be keys to greater connection and safer relational environments for more emergence.

Be surprised! Attuning to Self through Performance Reimagined
Be surprised at how attuning to yourself while being gently witnessed by others can offer you resonant connection with yourself. Practice noticing + acknowledging what is – specifically your feelings and needs – as you either witness others or are witnessed yourself in 30-40 second improvisations. You are at choice the entire time (you can choose to witness +/or be witnessed). Turn performance on its head by claiming it as moments of intentional self revelation rather than abandoning yourself to please others. Feel like you, come home to your body, come home to YOU!

The Paradox of Happiness
In this workshop Elena will speak about what happiness means in everyday language, and how field therapy can support happiness. Very frequently, we connect happiness through our accomplishments: rewarding work and salary, a nice house, good relationships, health, the respect and love of our closest people. But many of us know that even if we have these things we can be very unhappy. So what do we actually need? Field therapy looks at happiness in the context of the movement of energy between people and within a person. The more well-ordered our relationships with our family, society and colleagues are, the happier we are. Elena will offer exercises for all participants, and if there is time, she will do a constellation in support of happiness.

Savoring Pleasure: Deepening Your Joyful Experience
Welcome to a heartwarming journey into the art of gratitude. This 85 min workshop uses NVC needs-consciousness, body sensation and metaphor, to help us savor the pleasant aspects of our lives and focus on our happy experiences. Utilizing a somatic-based self-empathy exercise that simplifies the process of centering joy, and regularly practicing gratitude, not only rewires the brain’s pathways towards happiness, reducing anxiety and depressive thoughts, but also boosts the release of oxytocin in our bodies, enhancing our overall well-being and nurturing our capacity to connect deeply with ourselves and others. Let’s embark on this journey together, shedding old patterns to reveal the radiant beauty of the present moment.

Complex Truths About Our World in Crisis
What is the state of our World? How can we explain increasing economic instability, political radicalization, and a sense of insecurity? Is it that simple? In this experiential session, you will be invited to explore your complex truths about the state of the World in a safe space, being accompanied with Resonance. You may discover what needs grieving first in order to unblock energy, increase or regain your power to act and create a multi-color world that is fun and playful.

The Playful Resonance of Nature and the Family System
This workshop will provide an opportunity to appreciate the systemic rivers of play that run through our family system. Through a remembrance of our ancestral connection to the land, dance, music, games and play we will utilize systems constellation to explore the knowing that exists in our lineage and DNA in regard to lightness and enlivened interchange with ourselves and those that we love and encounter in life. Looking to the natural world we will examine how innate and essential play is for all living beings. Monkey business is serious business and helps us to feel whole.

Your Life Makes Sense: An Introduction to Constellations and their Healing Power
In family constellations we look at what blocks us while naming and making sense of unwanted patterns of behavior. This gives us choice and agency so we can be called by our life energy instead of pushed by our pain. Like tree rings on a tree, constellations show us the epigenetic tracks of our ancestral heritage, and how we carry this social neuroscience in our bodies. In this informal 85-minute workshop, you will:
• learn the basics of constellations
• be guided through a personal constellation, getting a direct sense of being “in the field”
• ask questions
• witness or participate in a larger constellation as a “representative” or a client
There’s no special knowledge or prerequisite needed to participate. Simply bring your willingness to be moved by the life force energy of the field. Your life makes sense. There’s more info about constellations on my website.

Awakening and Nurturing Joy on Your Healing Journey
Resonance supports us to be more ourselves: more expressive of our truths, more feeling of our feelings, more us. It takes us on a journey from pain, fear and heartbreak and sometimes scathing self-hatred toward delighting in who we are and feeling safe(r) in the world and our connections.
Experiencing and integrating resonance makes all emotional experiences more reachable and feelable; we begin to comprehend the depth and breadth of our grief, anger and shock in new ways, and begin to stretch into new access to awe, spontaneity and joy.
Join Jaya to explore how resonance for joy, delight and celebration can support integration and wholeness and enjoy newfound understanding of what really matters to you. Come experience how being with ourselves in all of our experiences from failures to triumphs is a part of the journey toward healing and nurturing our full selves.
Play and joy are our natural ways of being and are our birthright. Come (re)claim yours.

An Exploration of Death and Loss Through the Circuit of Panic/Grief
This offering will allow space for us to wonder about our Grief. We may be struggling with a death or absence that has left us bereft and lost, or one that brings up a well of sorrow for the longings that were never fulfilled. We will create time for reflection, briefly learning about the Circuits of the Brain with a focus on the Panic/Grief Circuit, identifying Unconscious Contracts that keep this Circuit blocked, a Demonstration of being warmly received and Accompanied in our Grief with Unconscious Contract process, and a Breakout for receiving resonance for our struggles with grief.

Engage your curiosity as we play with movement, sound, scribing/scribbling, poetry, and an emergent constellation. We’ll gather together to welcome ourselves and each other, to tenderly tune in to inner sensations, to offer ourselves spaciousness for authentic expression. Experiment! We’ll pay attention to our responses, self-reflecting on our next Yes step: Do I want to laugh, hum, dance, draw, sing, swear, or maybe, simply sit still? We’ll close with a mini-constellation designed to shine light on creating our own unique take-home, self-care practice/potion.
Please bring journal and pencil/crayons, 4 small objects (stone, bean, penny, leaf, almond, etc.), and a rattle of any sort (vitamin/supplement containers work well).

Thawing the Freeze: Resonant Movement for Emerging out of Immobilization
This experiential session invites tending to immobilization and its aftermath with embodiment, expression, and empathy. Immobilization is a natural response to overwhelming or hopeless situations. The path out of immobilization frequently includes big feelings – alarmed aloneness, rage, shame, or otherwise. It can be a lot to navigate.
Resonant movement, rooted in warm curiosity, relational neuroscience principles, and sensory and body-based practices, offers a path to navigate immobilization and its aftermath. Through embodied expression and gentle accompaniment, participants can find self-connection, integration, and healing.
Movement is optional; stillness is welcome, as is being off camera.

Wrinkling the Space-Time Continuum
In “A Wrinkle in Time,” the central characters pass through folds in the fabric of space-time into realms unreachable by ordinary means. In a parallel way, constellations allow us to work in between time and space, through representation and body-resonance. This enables us to engage the past, present, and future, as well as both the living and the dead, to help strengthen the flow of love and life.
This offering consists of short presentations and two mini-constellations in break-out groups: one to help support the flow of life from the past and the other from the future. We will include research findings that support the power of this approach.

Research shows that the more we play, the more open we are to the countless possibilities in front of us. In this interactive workshop, you will identify your play values, engage in brainstorming sessions to help find your play, and discover actionable ways to get into flow.
Learning Objectives:
- Learn about the science behind flow/play and how this affects productivity & focus
- Practice positive psychology techniques that help connect your work to your purpose
- Identify your play values and how they can be utilized to tap into your zone of genius

Exploring Blocks to Access Play with the Mystery of Constellations
This session promises to illuminate our tendency to resort to self-blame instead of embracing play and joy. While self-blame may serve as a protective mechanism, it often hinders our ability to foster self-compassion and genuine connections with ourselves and others. Through the innovative approach of constellation work, participants will delve into subconscious patterns and contracts, unraveling obstacles to their self-compassion journey and inhibitions to accessing play. Featuring a blend of lectures, journaling, and a large group constellation, this session offers a transformative exploration into cultivating kindness and understanding within ourselves and our relationships. Participants have full choice to participate as a representative or as a witness.

Self-Disgust: Time-Travel to the Split Self
Self-disgust is hard to speak about. Most listeners will contradict us, telling us we are just wonderful and that we shouldn’t be so hard on ourselves. Of course, we shouldn’t! Which adds shame to the self-disgust. And we pretend we’re all fine.
We despise ourselves, not because we choose to, but because of trauma within our nervous system. Self-disgust is a coping mechanism that eases our walk on this Earth. And it can be transformed.
Join this session where Pernille will demonstrate time-travel empathy for one of the participants to find meaning in the harsh inner voice and open the doors for the opportunity of healing the wound behind.

Journey of Healing and Unity: The Power of Stories in Neuroscience and Spirituality
You are warmly invited to join a sacred gathering where we delve into the profound connection between storytelling, neuroscience, and spiritual awakening.
Pavla will guide us through an enlightening exploration of how stories have the remarkable ability to heal our minds and open us to a deeper sense of unity consciousness.
In this transformative session, Pavla will first illuminate the neuroscience behind the healing power of storytelling, offering insights into why stories are essential for our brain’s well-being.
Then, we will embark on a soul-nourishing journey through the ancient tale of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Through this timeless narrative, we will uncover metaphors for the awakening of our consciousness and the journey towards inner union and self-discovery.
It’s important to note that while terms like divine feminine, divine masculine, and references to gods and goddesses may be used, our exploration transcends gender, focusing instead on the universal energies present in the cosmos.
Please bring a notebook and pen as we engage in journaling meditations, gentle yoga stretches, and sound-supported practices to deepen our experience and connect with the wisdom of the stories shared.
Join us in this sacred space to rest, receive, and awaken to the unity consciousness within.

Empathic Musical Poetry
I remember the 1st time I learned that simple repetition (like in nursery rhymes), can begin the process of ‘un-flipping our lids’ (aka bringing our brains back on-line, after traumatic events)
Sarah was sharing ‘hand model of the brain’ work by a professor from my alma mater (Dr Dan Siegel), and she showed us how music & poetry can help us move from brain agony to brain-harmony (try it real quick…sing 2 rounds of ‘row your boat’ wherever you are😎)
It offered me insight as to why when I first learned resonant language, I summarized different segments in poem form, then added a melody (as a way to bring FUN…& subconscious HARMONY…to EMPATHY)
Last time we did ‘Finger-Hugging Your Thumb’ (brain agony to brain-harmony). This time it’s musical-poetry as an empathic bridge of connection, to implicit harmony. Wanna join me?
Then LET’S be (P)assionate, (L)oving, (A)LIVE & (Y)outhful, together (Let’s PLAY)

Exploring the Sacredness of Play
This workshop will take participants on a journey of self discovery through the lens of playfulness and sacred clowning. This session will review a unique process, The Curious Sunshine Method, to experience how curiosity, mindfulness and imagination can help us tap into a playful state of mind. Play is sacred because it brings us to a lighter, more high vibrational, mindset. Being playful is also a liberated state of being because we are authentically joyful. This workshop will also tap into the sacred clown, an ancient practice of finding playfulness, even in our shadows. “Exploring the Sacredness of Play” workshop will be a blend of meditations, discussions and presentation.

How Trauma Makes the Hardest Thing To Do The Thing You Need the Most (And Why Your Future Self Will Likely Thank You For It!)
Sometimes our past trauma makes doing some big things — like taking care of ourselves, asking for help, and having FUN — really, really hard.
As a mama with trauma — 9/10 adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) — a solutions journalist, and a decades-long advocate for and student of parenting, re-parenting, brain science, diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, preconception, maternal and infant, and early relational health, I’ve learned and lived a lot. There are touches and dollops of 12-Step, A Course in Miracles, spirituality, neuroplasticity, the science of Positive and Adverse Childhood Experiences (PACEs), and our national need for “Neuro-Nurturing (R)” and “Flourish Envy” in this talk. Also included? My nerdy-best takeaways from years of reporting on PACEs science and helping to build scores of cross-sector communities using PACEs science to prevent and heal trauma, and build resilience. Further? You can ask me almost anything about these topics — personally or academically — and I’ll do my best to answer your questions or find the answer.

Gender Exploration and Inviting Inner Joy
Have you ever wished for resonant space to voice what is really true about who you are; the way you know yourself to be outside the box you were assigned at birth? A person‘s gender identity is one of the foundational pieces of our sense of who we are. For us, it begins to form between 12 to 18 months, and is generally very clear to us by the time we are 2 to 3 years old. However, before we are born, the people in our lives, and the society in which we live, both try to put us in a box that corresponds to their perception of the shape of our genitals. Gender ‘thou shalt’s impact if we are allowed to like certain colors, textures, or clothes (for example), and dictate such things as the way we carry ourselves physically, the music we like, the way we relate to children, the names and pronouns we use, the people to whom we are supposed to be attracted, the emotions we are allowed to have, our sexual expression, and so much more. Join us in a space of warm welcome to explore your sense of self and personal expression.
*gender is an embodiment of *self*, so there will likely be mention of body parts, sensuality, and/or sexuality.

Playing with Imagination and Story
When we have very uncomfortable feelings, the door to imagination gets closed, we feel stuck inside the feeling without any access to our flow and creativity. Essentially, we lose access to the play circuit. Yet, our imagination is what we need to bring us back to our wholeness. In this workshop we will share story-based exercises that stimulate the muscle of imagination. You will experience the delight of the Inside Story process, a practice that invites creativity and play back into the smallest, darkest rooms.
