Healing from Being Ghosted: Proximal Separation and Abandonment
April 21 @ 1:30 pm - May 12 @ 2:55 pm PDT
Cost: $300About the Event
Have you ever experienced the profound pain of being suddenly cut off from someone you cared about, with little explanation or opportunity for closure? Or is the pain and loss of being left by someone you care about, especially when the person is still in your environment, like having a body part that is severed and walking around with no recognition that it was ever a part of you?
Do you need acknowledgement that you have thought and re-thought every possible moment of the relationship to try and figure out where you went wrong? That you feel extraordinarily tainted and also convinced that there is something wrong with you as a result of this experience of inexplicable abandonment?
Not knowing the reason why someone left you can be more difficult than being left and knowing why. This makes being ghosted a uniquely damaging form of separation.
Ghosting is the act of suddenly ending all contact with someone without explanation. Whatever the type of sudden abandonment – whether it’s from a friend, romantic partner, work colleague, family member, etc. – being ghosted causes physiological feelings of disorientation that often leave us thinking and re-thinking, “what happened? what did I do wrong?” Oftentimes, this causes us to get stuck in endlessly recurring spirals of bewilderment, grief, and self-doubt. Without resonance, being ghosted can cause anxiety, depression, obsessive recurring thoughts and memories, hypervigilance, and an inability to restfully sleep.
In this healing course, we’ll explore the emotional and physiological impacts of both ghosting and being ghosted, as well as the hidden unconscious contracts that often shape this kind of separation and our responses to it. We’ll dive into the grief and panic that can arise from this form of abandonment–what it feels like in the nervous system when a relationship ends abruptly and inexplicably, and how this can echo and amplify unresolved wounds from earlier in life. We’ll explore our unconscious contracts against abandonment, and how we can begin to shift from obsessive thinking or emotional shutdown to a place of greater self-compassion and healing. We’ll explore how to gently release these contracts, bring resonance to our grief and fear, and allow ourselves to touch into the fuller scope of what we’ve experienced.
Being known and resonated with, after being left, can begin to open the jaws of the heart that have clamped closed in the efforts to survive the panic and grief of sudden loss, and support us towards healthful opening. Through this process, we can begin to create space for expanded possibility in how we relate to ourselves, to others, and to the world around us.
