Event Details
Did you know that our earliest sense of safety is formed during childhood and directly shapes our capacity for intimacy and trust?
The connections we forge with other humans when we are very small become the blueprint for how the rest of life unfolds for us. The study of this is called “attachment theory” and the more we understand about how attachment patterns have been imprinted into our nervous systems, the more we can understand about how we unconsciously show up in our lives, relationships, and communities.
“Attachment” is the way our brains and bodies understand and predict relationships, learn to stay emotionally safe, and regulate our nervous systems in relationship. Depending on how our caregivers confirmed or disrupted our sense of whether we make sense, we form deeply held and mostly unconscious convictions about whether to trust other people or arm ourselves against closeness in a threatening world, or whether to merge with the people around us in order to gain understanding and have any place at all in our world.
Another way to understand attachment patterns is to consider them as a complex web of unconscious contracts that we make with ourselves or others–sometimes before we’re even able to talk–that become programs that run constantly in the backgrounds of our lives. Although we do originally make unconscious contracts to protect ourselves, they very often don’t serve us well as we grow up and try to make sense of life and relationships.
In this course, we’ll be approaching our attachment wounding from the unique, and highly effective, angle of Resonant Healing and Unconscious Contract work. We will explore how to recognize and welcome the different attachment styles as we encounter them, both in ourselves and others, and fruitfully work with them as they appear. We'll look at the four main ways we humans respond and bond with others, and how we cope with separation - from easeful accommodation to violence or dissociation. We'll learn how to identify our own patterns around proximity and avoidance, support others to do the same, and explore how we can all enjoy relational and emotional relief as we practice secure connection with ourselves!
Attachment patterns are not static nor are they unchangeable: our brains are immensely neuroplastic and our neurons love to learn new things and make new connections. With resonance, exquisite gentleness, and compassionate unconscious contract work, we can transform the way we connect.
Join Sarah Peyton and Jaya Manske for this transformative foundational course on attachment patterning to discover self-compassion and learn how to move toward secure attachment with everyone, and most importantly, yourself.
